On October 31, we had planned our first charity concert this fall, and it was different than usual in two respects: Samyr Sakyiv had already offered to donate to us a concert in the summer – a solo concert with this exceptional talent on the violin and piano is something really special! And this time we wanted to have the Chapel in Heidelberg Rohrbach – a former American church – as the venue.
This turned into a concert on Halloween evening, with “Samyr and Friends”, as Samyr was able to win Anna Dobler and Oleg Kiriei as singers. Anna also moderated the concert.
Irina, Yuliia and many other helpers also conjured up incredibly tasty Ukrainian dishes for the audience during the interval – some guests didn’t even want to return to the main hall for part 2 of the concert, but wanted to continue nibbling 😋.
The evening was enchanting. A colorful program of folk songs, songs by Ivasyuk, Skoryk’s “Melodia”, modern pieces and original compositions delighted the audience and encouraged them to clap, snap their fingers and – yes – even sing along.
We would like to thank the artists for their demanding, beautiful and emotional contributions that enchanted the audience!
We would like to thank the kind volunteers from the Chapel – Raum für Stadtkultur in Heidelberg – for allowing us to use the Chapel with its wonderful hall, the grand piano and the entire infrastructure, and for providing us with technical support for the amplification system right before we “went live”!
Thank you to everyone who helped with the catering! (I’m getting hungry again when I think of the syrniki, the holubtsi and the delicious desserts…)
We would like to thank all the spontaneous helpers who stepped in to prepare and then tidy up after the concert – and above all we would like to thank Bill, a volunteer, Ukraine supporter and founder of DniproExpress, for his active support and for the wonderful video he put together from his recordings, which we have linked here: VIDEO.
