Three Charity Concerts for Pickup4Ukraine in the Region
Pickup4Ukraine thanks the musicians for three wonderful summer concerts here in the region. The opening act featured Hanna Dobler, Samyr Sakyiv, Oleg Kiriei, and their friends in Heidelberg. With an evening full of emotions, they took the audience in the more than well-filled Chapel on a journey through traditional Ukrainian and contemporary music, from “Moonlit Night,” and Tetiana Tsikhotska’s own composition to Lesya Ukrainka’s spring poem, to songs like “Obiymy” by the band “Okean Elzy,” which has also been interpreted by musicians in Germany.
In Wiesloch, we were able to use the Kulturhaus again with the friendly support of the Kulturforum südliche Bergstraße e.V. Here – and also at the concert in Walldorf in the Laurentius Kapelle – almost 20 musicians from three generations performed songs and pieces from various countries: music by Boccherini and Handel, Schubert and Fauré, as well as ragtime and jazz delighted the audience just as much as Ukrainian folk songs and current pop songs. Songs to listen to, to dream away, and to sing along with, framed by the Ukrainian national anthem and Chervona Kalyna.
We thank the musicians for their commitment, and we thank our kind supporters who served drinks during the breaks and spoiled us with German and Ukrainian dishes!
These concert evenings, of course, help us fundraise for our association. But at the same time, they are an expression of solidarity across all borders. Music creates experiences. Music allows sharing emotions. Music builds bridges. Music unites.
The next concerts are planned for the fall. Look forward to our invitation!
